The Australian Securities Exchange and Thomson Reuters Australia (formerly Reuters) joined forces in 1999 to form a Charity Foundation with the objective of helping Australian-based children’s and medical research charities by organising fundraising events in conjunction with the Financial Markets.
The most recent events were the annual Financial Markets Charity Golf Day and Gala Dinner held on 26 February 2010 which raised $936,000 for 20 children’s and medical research charities and the Financial Markets Charity Sailing Regatta which took place on 16 October 2009 at Middle Harbour Yacht Club and raised $81,000 towards the total.
The next golf event will be the 2011 Financial Markets Charity Golf Day and Gala Dinner in February. A field of 256 Golfers supported by over 200 Corporate sponsors will play in the day and attend the dinner.
To date, the combined funds distributed to a wide range of charities totals just under $21 million.
Funds are raised by holding an annual golf tournament, dinner, auction, art union and a charity sailing regatta. The Foundation has also organised several charity art exhibitions.
